FAQ
what services do you provide?
See our About page for more info - but pretty much everything related to the administrative side of a performing arts organization, anything related to producing a single performance or concert series, and everything in between! We’ll even assist with writing your grants - the only thing we won’t do is attend a grant panel or recruit board members on behalf of your organization (see below for more specifics).
How can I hire a fey production?
We typically work with organizations based on specific referrals, but we are always open to new opportunities! Head over to our Contact page - tell us a bit about your organization / performance, 2-4 specific goals for this organization / performance, your top 3 needs from A Fey Production, and anything else you might want to say!
How much does it cost?
This is such a difficult question! Since A Fey Production provides such a wide variety of services, this truly depends on what you’re requesting. We do offer our administrative support on either a month-to-month or annual contract, where you do save a bit on the yearly contract (although this contract can still be paid monthly). A rough estimate is $25-30 per hour for administrative services, but again, it really depends on your needs.
Performance Logistics services cost roughly $600 per performance, but can vary widely in either direction, depending on your specific needs. This generally includes overall logistical support for the performer, serving as a venue liaison, program design & printing, Facebook and other online listings. A myriad of other options are of course available for additional costs.
If you’re interested, fill out our Contact form (with the info listed in the previous question!), and we’ll send you all of our possible services and the associated costs.
I’m just looking for a Musician to play a gig:
Yeah, we can do that! If Alan Fey himself can’t take the gig, we’ll make sure to find the right person. You can contact us, or click that link to go to Alan’s individual percussionist website.
Likewise - if you’re looking for some specific performer recommendations but already have the performance all planned out, we’re not in the business of contracting so we can happily send some names your way. If, however, you’re looking for a significant investment of time and talent, we’ll probably ask that you hire A Fey Production - we’ll take care of the performers AND the overall performance logistics of the event. And yes - we would love to work with your business to bring local artists to you!
speaking of which - I am looking for an education / arts opportunity for my business!
Excellent! A Fey Production would love to work with you to determine the right musical organization to present an educational and team-building experience for your business. In addition to our own performing arts clients, we have a rich network of musicians to ensure we find the right match for your team. We also have a list of educational experts who can assist in designing such a program, should you wish.
Please note - we do not book our clients to be dinner entertainment or other “background music” type of event, unless the evening includes a specific performance portion with the focus on the artists. We simply believe our artwork is too valuable to be performed as an afterthought. Do feel free to contact us either way - if your event falls in this “background” realm of performance, we would still be happy to send you a list of performers for you to contact directly. Of course, we would also be happy to discuss how we can shift the focus of your evening to the artists and their work!
How do you work for multiple arts organizations?
This is a bit of a tricky question, and an important one in the competitive realm of Nashville Arts donors. Of the groups who currently pay for administrative services, only one considers Alan Fey an “employee” (albeit part-time and at-will), the rest consider Alan a part-time, contract hire. When A Fey Production (which at the moment consists solely of Alan Fey) is approached by an organization, potential conflicts of interest are discussed before any paperwork is signed.
There is an inherent amount of competition for customers [i.e., audience] between every arts group, even between the Nashville Symphony and a high school recitalist at their church. A Fey Production is committed to working hard for your organization and to reaching and expanding your core audience - we believe the continued growth of Nashville means the potential arts audience is growing as well. If there is any concern of a scheduling conflict or general conflict of interest between an existing client and a potential client, we will discuss this with all concerned parties before moving forward.
But your website says you help with financials and donors??
A Fey Production can indeed assist with this - and rest assured it will be handled with the utmost confidentiality. We never share donor or financial info with anyone within OR outside A Fey Production, except where required by law, when in the process of an artistic collaboration (and with prior approval), or occasionally in regards to government grants that are already in the public record. To avoid any donor-related conflict of interest, A Fey Production does NOT design specific development campaigns, beyond managing the logistics and specifics of carrying out such a campaign. For example: we can help you send a Financial Ask Letter Campaign to your Mailing List / Donor Base in a timely fashion and can assist with tracking the donations made in response, however we will not author the letter or actively expand your mailing list / donor base (except in regards to a performance audience).
Likewise, we can help with managing your Board’s calendar, by-laws, attendance, on-boarding, take notes at meetings, and even contact potential board members at your request, but we will NOT actively engage in board member recruitment.

What’s your favorite hot chicken restaurant?
Depends on my mood! But either Bolton’s or Prince’s. Hattie B’s has my favorite mac & cheese, however.
